The Khaki Field is the line that matters here. The hand-wound 38 mm reference is one of the few watches at any price that gets a military field watch exactly right: matte dial, no date, 9.5 mm of height, sapphire and an 80-hour reserve. The automatic version adds a rotor, a date and 100 m of water resistance. Hamilton's broader catalogue extends into aviation and dress pieces, but the Khaki Field is the reason most people buy the brand.
Strengths
- H-50 and H-10 movements offer 80-hour reserves from ETA bases
- Genuine military design lineage rather than styling
- 38 mm cases in a market that has largely abandoned them
- Sapphire crystals throughout
Watch out for
- 50 m water resistance on the hand-wound Khaki Field
- No published rate specifications for H-series calibers
- Prices have risen steadily since 2020
- Lug-to-lug is long relative to case diameter across the Khaki Field line
