The Best Watches on Amazon

Searching for a watch on Amazon is the problem, not the solution. The listings are a wall of near-identical references, half the photographs belong to a different variant, and the specifications are copied between sellers until nobody knows which case is actually in the box. This page is the filter. Every watch below is one we have a record for, whose reference we matched against the manufacturer's own specification sheet, and whose Amazon listing we confirmed is that exact reference — not the family, not a variant that shares a name. Availability on Amazon changes without notice. The button takes you to the live listing, which is the only place the current price exists.

Seiko 5 Sports SRPD55 SRPD55K1 black dial front view

Best for

Best overall

Seiko 5 Sports SRPD55

The automatic that has taught more people what a mechanical watch is than any other. The 4R36 hacks and hand-winds — neither was standard at this price until Seiko made it so — and it runs 41 hours with 100 m of water resistance behind a screw-down crown. The 22 mm lugs open onto the largest strap aftermarket in watchmaking, which is why one of these rarely stays stock for long.

The compromise

Hardlex instead of sapphire, folded end links, and an accuracy window of −35 to +45 seconds a day — the widest of any movement on this page.

Casio F-105W

The F-91W with its one real flaw fixed, for the same money: an electro-luminescent panel that lights the whole display instead of an LED that lights one corner. Same module, same ±30 seconds a month, same seven-year battery, same 21 grams. At this price accuracy stops being a compromise and becomes the reason to buy.

The compromise

Casio publishes no depth rating — only WATER RESIST, which covers rain and hand-washing. Resin glass scratches where mineral would not.

Best under $100

Casio Duro MDV106

200 m of water resistance, a screw-lock crown, a screw-lock back and an anti-reverse bezel, for $60. Nothing else near this price publishes that specification, and Casio's own sheet backs every figure — we traced it, down to the SR626SW cell and the 2784 module. At ±20 seconds a month it also keeps better time than every automatic on this page.

The compromise

Mineral crystal, weak lume and a basic case finish. At 48.5 mm lug-to-lug and 92 g it is a wide, heavy watch. Casio states plainly that it is not an ISO-rated dive watch.

Best automatic

Seiko 5 Sports SRPK89

44.7 mm from lug tip to lug tip — the shortest span of any automatic in our database, and the reason this is the one we hand to anyone with a wrist under 17 cm. The 4R36 hacks and hand-winds, there is 100 m of water resistance behind a screwed-down exhibition caseback, and Seiko publishes 4,800 A/m of magnetic resistance, which almost nobody at this price does.

The compromise

Curved Hardlex rather than sapphire on a $415 watch, 18 mm lugs that narrow the strap choice, and 12.5 mm of height on a 37.4 mm case reads proportionally tall.

G-Shock GA-2100 GA-2100-1A1 black dial front view

Best for

Best everyday watch

G-Shock GA-2100

The G-Shock you can wear with a jacket. At 11.8 mm it is by far the slimmest case in the line and 51 g is light enough to sleep in, while Carbon Core Guard keeps the 200 m and the shock resistance the name exists for. ±15 seconds a month is the tightest figure on this page.

The compromise

The digital display is small and low in contrast, the crystal is mineral, and the integrated strap needs an adapter to change.

Best field watch

Citizen Chandler BM8180

$120 for a field watch that never needs a battery. Eco-Drive runs on any light, so there is no service interval and nothing to replace, and at 37 mm across with a 43 mm span it is the smallest watch on this page — the one that fits where the others overhang. 100 m of published water resistance.

The compromise

Mineral crystal, a basic case finish and a nylon strap most owners replace. Next to the Swiss field watches it looks like what it costs.

Best dive watch

Citizen Promaster Diver BN0150

The only watch on this page with an actual dive certification: ISO 6425 to 200 m, not a 200 m number on a case back. Eco-Drive means no battery changes and no winding, and ±15 seconds a month is an order of magnitude tighter than any automatic diver at the price. At 122 g on polyurethane it is unusually light for the category.

The compromise

Mineral crystal rather than sapphire, and 44 mm with a 48 mm span needs a larger wrist. The polyurethane strap is functional rather than refined.

Bulova Surveyor Automatic 96B469 light blue dial front view

Best dress watch

Bulova Surveyor Automatic

Anti-reflective sapphire at $495, in a bracket where most automatics still fit mineral glass. 39 mm with 20 mm lugs is the most conventional proportion here — any strap fits — and the light blue sunburst dial is a colour this category almost never offers. Exhibition caseback, 42-hour reserve.

The compromise

The most gaps of any watch here, and they are Bulova's. It is rated only as splash resistant with no depth in metres, the calibre is not named anywhere in their material, and thickness, lug-to-lug and weight are unpublished — so fit is hard to judge before it is on your wrist.

Best digital

Casio AE-1200WH

$39.95 for 100 m, 31 time zones, four simultaneous Multi Time displays, five alarms, a countdown timer and a full auto-calendar to 2099, on a battery Casio rates at ten years. It is the cheapest watch in our database with a depth rating its maker will actually publish, and nothing else here does time zones at all.

The compromise

A large watch — 45 mm lug-to-lug and 12.5 mm thick — with resin glass over a busy display, which is the worst place for scratches. The world map is decoration, not a zone indicator.

How we chose

Four conditions, and a watch has to meet all four. - The reference matches exactly. Amazon groups variants under one page, so we go by the model number in the listing and the photograph, not the title. A listing for the family does not count. - The record is verified. Every specification on the watch's own page traces to the manufacturer, with the source and the date it was checked. - We have written a review of it. This page links decisions, not products. - The compromise is declared. Every entry below says what you give up, because a list where nothing has a downside is an advertisement. What does NOT decide the order: the commission. Amazon pays the same percentage on all of these, so there is nothing to rig, but it is worth saying anyway — the order is by category, and the category is chosen before the retailer is. Fourteen watches in our database have no Amazon button at all, and several of them are better than some of the watches here. And nothing on this page is copied from Amazon. No star ratings, no review counts, no best-seller badges, no prices. Those belong to Amazon and we are not licensed to republish them.

Selection Time is reader-supported. If you buy through a link on this page we may earn a commission. This never affects our scores or what we recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did you choose these watches?

Category first, retailer second. We picked the best watch we have a verified record and a written review for in each category, then checked whether its exact reference is sold on Amazon. Fourteen watches in our database have no Amazon button at all, and several are better than some of the ones here — they are missing because the listing is not the exact reference, not because they are worse.

Why don't you show Amazon prices or ratings?

Because we are not allowed to. Republishing Amazon prices, star ratings, review counts or best-seller badges requires the Product Advertising API, and we do not have it. The typical street prices on our watch pages are our own editorial estimates, dated and checked by us — not Amazon's. For the current price, the button is the only honest answer.

Do you earn money from these links?

Yes, a commission if you buy after clicking. It does not change what is on this page: Amazon pays the same percentage on every watch here, the categories were decided before the retailer was checked, and a watch with no Amazon listing can and does win a category elsewhere on this site.

The listing says it is unavailable. What now?

Amazon stock moves faster than any page can. Open the watch's own page here — it lists the other retailers we have checked, including the manufacturer's own store where one exists. We never send you to an Amazon search results page as a fallback, because a search is not the watch you were reading about.
