Veredicto rápido

On paper the Kamasu offers more per dollar than anything else in this database. Sapphire, 200 m, an in-house hacking automatic and a fully solid bracelet at $235 is a specification no competitor matches. The weak points are luminous performance and after-sales support rather than anything structural.

Diseño

Orient works within the established diver vocabulary — a 41.8 mm round case, sloped bezel, applied markers and a sword handset — without copying any single reference. The sunburst blue dial is the visual draw, and it shifts noticeably as the light moves across it.

Movimiento

The F6922 is designed and produced by Seiko Epson, Orient's parent: 22 jewels, 21,600 vph, hacking and hand-winding, 40 hours of reserve. Orient publishes -15 to +25 seconds per day, a materially tighter window than the -35/+45 Seiko quotes for the 4R36.

Calidad de construcción

Case finishing runs a step above the Seiko 5 Sports, with crisper brushing and a better-defined bevel. The screw-down crown is signed. Note that Orient rates the watch to 200 m but does not certify it to ISO 6425, so it carries no DIVER'S marking.

Esfera

Applied indices with a printed chapter ring and a date at three. Legibility is strong in daylight. Orient's luminous compound is adequate rather than notable, and this is the clearest area where Seiko's Prospex line pulls ahead.

Brazalete y correa

Solid end links, solid links throughout, a stamped clasp with a diver's extension and — unusually at this price — half-links for fine adjustment. The Seiko 5 Sports cannot be sized as precisely.

Comodidad y ergonomía

A 47 mm lug-to-lug on a 41.8 mm case is well proportioned, and 12.8 mm is slimmer than most 200 m divers. The tapering bracelet helps smaller wrists more than the raw numbers suggest.

Precisión

Orient's published window of -15 to +25 seconds per day is one of the tighter specifications among affordable Japanese automatics, and the practical implication is a movement less likely to need regulation out of the box.

Lo que nos gusta

Lo que nos gusta

  • Sapphire crystal as standard at a price where mineral glass is the norm
  • F6922 hacks and hand-winds, with a tighter published accuracy window than Seiko's 4R36
  • Solid end links, solid centre links and half-links for fine sizing
  • 200 m rating with a screw-down crown

Lo que no nos gusta

  • Luminous material is weaker than Seiko's LumiBrite
  • Orient's service network outside Japan is thinner than Seiko's or Citizen's
  • Bezel action is firmer than most, which some find stiff

¿Quién debería comprarlo?

Anyone who wants the best-specified mechanical watch $250 can buy, and anyone who has ruled out Seiko because of its mineral crystals.

¿Quién debería descartarlo?

Skip it if luminous performance matters — Seiko is meaningfully stronger. Skip it if you want a brand with service centres in every major city.

Veredicto final

The Kamasu is the watch that makes the sub-$300 category difficult for everyone else. It is not the most exciting design here, but it is the one where the specification sheet has no obvious gaps.

Preguntas frecuentes

Kamasu or Mako III?

Both use the F6922 and are rated to 200 m. The Kamasu adds a sapphire crystal and applied markers; the Mako III uses mineral glass and costs less. The crystal is the deciding difference for most buyers.

Is Orient owned by Seiko?

Orient has been a subsidiary of Seiko Epson since 2017, which is why its movements are produced by Epson.

Can the Kamasu be used for scuba diving?

It is rated to 200 m with a screw-down crown, but Orient does not certify it to ISO 6425. For technical diving, choose a certified watch such as a Seiko Prospex or Tissot Seastar.
