Veredicto rápido
If the requirement is a dive watch that is simply always right and never needs attention, the specification here is hard to beat: ISO 6425 certification, 200 m, and a solar movement Citizen rates at ±15 seconds per month. It is the least romantic watch in this database and possibly the most useful.

Diseño
A conventional 44 mm diver with a broad rotating bezel and high-contrast dial. Citizen prioritises legibility over subtlety, and the yellow and orange references are aimed squarely at actual underwater use rather than at a desk.
Movimiento
The Eco-Drive E168 converts any light source into stored energy, running roughly six months in darkness once fully charged. Citizen publishes ±15 seconds per month — roughly thirty times tighter than the mechanical alternatives at this price.
Calidad de construcción
Screw-down crown, screwed caseback and ISO 6425 certification, which covers pressure, thermal shock, magnetic and shock resistance rather than a depth number alone. The crystal is mineral, which is the main concession.
Esfera
Large applied markers with heavy luminous fill and a date at three. Contrast is deliberately extreme; this is a dial designed to be read at depth rather than admired across a table.
Brazalete y correa
The polyurethane strap is durable, easy to rinse and light, which makes sense for the intended use. It is also the component that makes the watch look like equipment. A 20 mm lug width means alternatives are easy to find.
Comodidad y ergonomía
At 122 g it is significantly lighter than a steel-braceleted diver, but 44 mm with a 48 mm lug-to-lug still requires a wrist of about 6.75 inches or more to sit properly.
Precisión
Citizen's specification of ±15 seconds per month puts this in a different category from anything mechanical here. There is no winding, no battery change and no service interval in the conventional sense.
Lo que nos gusta
Lo que nos gusta
- ISO 6425 certified to 200 m
- Eco-Drive means no battery changes and no winding
- Quartz accuracy of ±15 seconds per month against ±15 seconds a day for an automatic
- Light for a diver at 122 g on the polyurethane strap
Lo que no nos gusta
- Mineral crystal rather than sapphire
- 44 mm with a 48 mm span needs a larger wrist
- The polyurethane strap is functional rather than refined
¿Quién debería comprarlo?
Anyone who wants a certified dive watch that stays accurate without maintenance, and anyone who dislikes resetting a watch they wear occasionally.
¿Quién debería descartarlo?
Skip it if you want the feel of a mechanical movement, or if your wrist is under 6.5 inches. Skip it too if sapphire is a requirement.

Veredicto final
The most practical dive watch in this price range, and the one that asks least of its owner. What it does not offer is any of the appeal that makes people buy mechanical watches in the first place.

Preguntas frecuentes
Does an Eco-Drive watch ever need a battery?
Not a conventional one. The rechargeable cell that stores solar energy is rated for many years and is replaced only at a service interval, not annually.
What happens if it is kept in a drawer?
Citizen rates the E168 at roughly six months of running from a full charge in complete darkness, after which it stops and restarts once exposed to light.
