The quartz PRX is thinner, lighter, more accurate and $330 cheaper. The Powermatic 80 is a mechanical watch. That is the entire decision — the case, bracelet, crystal and water resistance are identical.
This is an unusually clean comparison because Tissot changed only one thing. Both references share the tonneau case, the integrated bracelet, the sapphire crystal, the 100 m rating and the dial design. What differs is the movement and half a millimetre of case height.

Veredicto de Selection Time
Elige el Tissot PRX Quartz 40mm
Choose the quartz PRX if you want the design at the lowest price, if you wear several watches in rotation and want one that is always correct, or if the thinnest possible case matters.
Leer el análisis completoElige el Tissot PRX Powermatic 80
Choose the Powermatic 80 if a mechanical movement is the reason you are buying a watch at all, or if you want the version with the stronger resale demand.
Leer el análisis completoJudged purely on specification the quartz version is the better buy: it is 0.5 mm thinner, 20 g lighter, keeps far better time and costs $330 less. But almost nobody buys a PRX on specification alone. The 80-hour reserve is a genuinely useful feature — leave it on Friday and it is still running Monday morning — and the automatic is the reference the secondary market wants. Buy the quartz if you want a watch; buy the automatic if you want a mechanical watch.

Preguntas frecuentes
Do the quartz and automatic PRX look different?
Only in dial text and 0.5 mm of case height. Side by side, the difference is not obvious.
Which is better for a small wrist?
The quartz, marginally, because it is thinner and lighter. Both share the same 40 mm case and 45 mm span, and Tissot also produces the PRX in 35 mm.
